Writing Circles in Grand Rapids
Writing circles are one-time gatherings held at Voice & Vessel's studio in Grand Rapids. These writing circles take cues from reflective writing and contemplative writing practices. Each one is an opportunity to write deeply and open up to your voice and the stories you carry.
How It Works
Writing circles are one-time sessions, two hours in length, and open to eight people. During our time together, I share readings (poems, essays, etc.), writing prompts, and creative practices that invite reflection and deepen attention.
You'll have at least 60 to 75 minutes of writing time in each session (broken up over the time), with a couple invitations to share some of your fresh writing. Sharing is always optional, and compared to the weekly Voice & Vessel workshops, writing circles have less time for sharing and responding to our work as a group.
Like workshops, writing circles are confidential. When we come together as writers, we agree to celebrate our voices and the stories that show up. Regardless of our backgrounds or experience levels, we'll be equals in facing the empty page.
Meaningful prompts and practices, snacks to keep your energy up, good coffee and tea, a cozy spot to write, and plenty of free parking. I lead writing circles based on the Amherst Writers & Artists Method, which offers an open and supportive approach to getting words on the page.
All voices and experience levels are invited! If you have any questions, please say hello. I'd love to hear from you as you decide whether a writing circle, workshop, or other writing experience would be a fit.
Please note: Due to the nature of writing circles, refunds cannot be offered. Please be sure you're able to participate when you register.
