Writing Circles in Grand Rapids

Writing circles are one-time gatherings held at Voice & Vessel's studio in Grand Rapids. These writing circles take cues from reflective writing and contemplative writing practices. Each one is an opportunity to write deeply and open up to your voice and the stories you carry.

If you're curious about the Amherst Writers & Artists Method but don't feel ready to join a longer workshop at Voice & Vessel, writing circles are a great way to try it out.

How It Works

Writing circles are two hours each and open to eight people. During our time together, I share readings (poems, essays, etc.), writing prompts, and creative practices that invite reflection and deepen attention.

You'll have at least 60 to 75 minutes of writing time in each session (broken up over the time), as well as opportunities to share some of your fresh writing.

Sharing is always optional, and like my other writing workshops, writing circles are confidential. When we come together as writers, we agree to celebrate our voices and the stories that show up. Regardless of our backgrounds or experience levels, we'll be equals in facing the empty page.

What's Included

Meaningful prompts and practices, snacks to keep your energy up, good coffee and tea, a cozy spot to write, and an accessible studio space with plenty of free parking. I lead writing circles based on the Amherst Writers & Artists Method, which offers an open and supportive approach to getting words on the page.

Who's Invited

All voices, writing styles, and experience levels are invited! If you have any questions, please say hello. I'd love to hear from you as you decide whether a writing circle, workshop, or other writing experience would be a fit.

Please note: Due to the nature of writing circles, refunds cannot be offered. Please be sure you're able to participate when you register.
