Summer Writing Series

How can the shape of your writing bring you closer to your voice? This special series will help you play with different forms of writing as a way of unlocking your stories. Like any good summer adventure, we’ll open up to the unexpected. We’ll experiment with the edges, sounds, twists, and turns of our voice on the page.

Choose your own adventure.

This is a special series of two-hour workshops, created with the spirit and schedule of summer in mind! Come for one, a couple, or the whole series.

All voices and experience levels are invited. If you’re new to a form, this will be a supportive space to experiment. If there’s a form you already love, this is a chance to find a new edge and go deeper in your creative practice.

What can you expect in these writing workshops?

  • An immersive and encouraging writing experience, with writing prompts, readings, and creative support -- plus extra take-home prompts/exercises designed just for these workshops, to spark your summer writing journey
  • A safe and confidential approach based on the Amherst Writers & Artists Method
  • No preparation needed. All the magic happens in the room, so you'll never have to worry about doing "homework."
  • No pressure. You won't be asked to announce (or even decide) whether you're a poet or the next bestseller. We'll be equals in facing the empty page. We'll celebrate our best attempts, our creative risks, and our unexpected discoveries.
  • A cozy writing space conveniently located in Grand Rapids, with plenty of free parking
  • Coffee, tea, and snacks to keep your creative energy up

From a fellow writer

"I am so grateful for the safe, clear, consistent and sensitive facilitating that you provide for all of us! As well as your background in formal study of and practice in many forms of writing. I have this lovely feeling of never being bored, of always there being more to explore, develop or practice with the many resources you bring to the groups."
